Los Altos is an incorporated city in Santa Clara County. If you received a traffic citation in Los Altos, the court identified on your citation or later notice—not your home address—determines your case procedure and whether you may attend traffic school.

GoToTrafficSchool offers an online California traffic school course. The company says its California school is DMV-licensed and electronically reports completions. Before enrolling for ticket masking, check with the court handling your citation: California traffic-school eligibility and permission are case-specific, and finishing a course does not itself resolve a ticket or guarantee that the court will accept it.

First: check your ticket and court notice

Santa Clara County Superior Court handles traffic cases through its Traffic Division. The court’s official traffic information page links to its case lookup, payment portal, traffic-school instructions, and contact services. The court says a courtesy notice usually arrives 45–60 days after a citation, but it can take longer. If the citation is not visible online, follow the date and instructions on your citation; the court advises contacting it if the notice has not arrived or the citation is still not listed within 90 days.

  1. Identify the assigned court and response deadline on your citation or official notice. Do not assume a courthouse is correct just because it is nearby.
  2. Look up the case using the court’s official Traffic Case Info Portal. If the record is not available, use the citation instructions and contact the court; an online record’s absence does not cancel a deadline.
  3. Read the notice’s options and conditions. If traffic school is offered, confirm the eligibility, provider, completion deadline, and reporting instructions with the court before enrolling.
  4. Handle court obligations separately from course enrollment. A course registration does not respond to a citation or substitute for any court-directed payment, plea, appearance, or other required action.

The Superior Court lists the Family Justice Center Courthouse in San Jose and the South County Morgan Hill Courthouse as locations where traffic matters can be processed. The court does not establish on the pages reviewed that every Los Altos citation is assigned to a particular courthouse. Follow the court and location shown on your own notice.

Court location and traffic contact; case lookup; traffic payments; Traffic Division procedures

The court’s traffic courthouse page lists both locations for traffic and minor-offense matters, but it does not assign all Los Altos citations to either one. Check your notice for the assigned court and any hearing location. The court’s Traffic Division page explains how to check a case, pay, request a hearing, and find traffic-school information. Court payments and course enrollment are separate.

What California traffic school may—and may not—do

California’s traffic-school process is not automatic merely because a driver lives in Los Altos or has registered for a course. The California Courts self-help guidance says eligible drivers may be able to mask a point from their DMV record, subject to court eligibility and the applicable course rules. Masking is not the same as dismissing the citation or erasing the underlying conviction.

The statewide guidance generally describes eligibility conditions including a valid license, a citation involving a noncommercial vehicle, and no traffic-school completion within the previous 18 months. Some violations are not eligible. Commercial-license holders and citations involving commercial vehicles can have different rules. Your citation, court notice, and court’s decision control your case.

GoToTrafficSchool states that it is licensed by the California DMV and reports completion electronically to the DMV, which then notifies the court. That is a company statement, not confirmation that the course is accepted for your particular case. Verify the provider, court permission, and deadline with the court before enrolling. After completion, check that the court received and recorded the completion; do not assume course-provider reporting also satisfies any separate insurer request.

For the official statewide instructions, use the California Courts traffic-ticket self-help guide and the California DMV’s traffic school lookup.

Driving and Road Safety in Los Altos

Los Altos has city-level traffic-management resources that may be useful to drivers beyond ticket procedures. The City’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program describes a process for residents and City staff to identify local traffic concerns, consider traditional enforcement and education, and assess possible engineering measures. Its Collector Traffic Calming Plan describes speed-management planning for collector streets. These are city transportation programs—not traffic-ticket or traffic-school procedures.

The City’s 2026 Complete Streets Commission work plan includes pedestrian and multimodal paths, public-safety locations of concern, and capital improvement projects. The City also maintains a Jardin Drive redesign project page with design materials and project history. Check the City’s current project information before traveling; older design concepts and schedules on that page should not be treated as confirmation of current construction.

For current roadway details, project updates, or neighborhood traffic concerns, use the City of Los Altos Public Works transportation resources. The City’s Complete Streets Commission advises the City Council on projects and programs for safe mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit users.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Los Altos traffic ticket go to a Los Altos court?

The court is not determined by your residence or by the city name alone. Santa Clara County Superior Court handles traffic cases in the county, but the citation or later court notice identifies the case’s assigned court and instructions. Confirm the location on your notice.

Can I take GoToTrafficSchool after receiving a ticket in Los Altos?

Possibly, if the court handling your case allows traffic school, you meet the applicable eligibility conditions, and the course and completion meet the court’s requirements. GoToTrafficSchool’s California approval and reporting statements are company claims; confirm case-specific permission with the court before enrolling.

Does traffic school dismiss a citation?

No. California traffic school may mask an eligible point from the DMV record when the applicable requirements are met. It does not erase the citation or automatically dismiss the underlying conviction.

How do I find out whether my Santa Clara County citation is online?

Use the court’s Traffic Case Info Portal. The court says citations can take time to appear. If the case is missing, follow the instructions and deadline on your citation and contact the Traffic Division as the court directs.

How long do I have to respond or complete traffic school?

The citation and court notice give the dates that apply to your case. Response, course-election, course-completion, and proof-recording deadlines are separate. Do not treat a general estimate or another driver’s deadline as yours.

Does course completion automatically satisfy my insurer?

Not necessarily. Court traffic-school masking and an insurance benefit are not the same thing. Ask your insurer whether it recognizes the specific course and what proof it requires. California’s Good Driver discount rules use their own licensing and driving-record conditions; course completion does not independently guarantee a discount.

Is there a classroom traffic school in Los Altos?

This review did not verify a specific in-person school in Los Altos with current local class availability. California DMV maintains an official traffic school lookup; use its search filters and contact a listed provider directly about location, format, and class availability.
