If you received a traffic citation in Benicia, the Solano County Superior Court handles traffic cases through its traffic divisions. Your citation or a later court notice identifies the court and your deadlines. The court—not the City of Benicia or the ticketing officer—determines whether you may attend traffic school and which completion requirements apply.
GoToTrafficSchool offers a California online traffic school course. Its website says the course is licensed by the California DMV and reports completed courses to the state; however, confirm your eligibility and the specific course’s acceptance with the court before enrolling. Do not enroll on the assumption that taking a course will dismiss a ticket or satisfy a court requirement. The course does not erase the citation. View the California course information.
Check your eligibility before enrolling
California Courts says drivers are usually eligible for traffic school when they have a valid license, the ticket involved a noncommercial vehicle, and they have not attended traffic school for a qualifying violation within the preceding 18 months. Some violations are ineligible, including certain equipment and alcohol- or drug-related tickets. The court notice should say whether you can attend; if it is unclear, ask the court. Commercial-license or commercial-vehicle cases can have different rules. California Courts: Traffic school eligibility
Traffic school is a court permission and case-eligibility process, not an automatic ticket-dismissal option. For eligible cases, successful completion may keep a point from appearing on the driver’s DMV record for insurer visibility. It does not erase the ticket or guarantee a change in insurance premiums.
GoToTrafficSchool course
GoToTrafficSchool describes its California course as online and self-paced, with progress saved when switching devices. The company says it reports completion and provides a certificate for the student’s records. Those are company statements; they do not establish that the court has approved your request or received and accepted your completion. Confirm the court’s deadline and then check with the court that completion was recorded.
The California course page lists the company’s DMV traffic school license number as OL# E1990. The company’s claim about its license is distinct from your case-specific eligibility and the court’s permission. Check the DMV Traffic School List and confirm course acceptance with the court before enrolling. The DMV directory is a provider lookup, not a registration or court-approval service.

Responding to a Solano County traffic citation
Use the court and deadline printed on your citation or official notice; where you live or where a courthouse is located does not by itself determine how your case is routed.
- Look for the court notice. Solano Superior Court says a courtesy notice is mailed to the address on the citation and that it may take about four weeks to process the citation. You must still respond by the citation’s deadline even if the notice has not arrived. If it is missing or unclear, contact the court before your due date.
- Check case services and options. Use the court’s traffic division page and citation-payment page. Online lookup and payment are official court services, separate from GoToTrafficSchool’s course and enrollment pages.
- Request traffic school through the court if eligible. The court says election may be available by mail, at the court drop box, or through online or phone payment options. If your citation includes a correctable “fix-it” violation, the court says the request and proof of correction must be submitted by mail or drop box. The court’s traffic-school instructions also say to complete the election by the court due date or an approved extended due date; an extension is not automatic.
- Complete the course by the court’s deadline. Court obligations and course enrollment are separate. Follow the deadline and payment instructions on your own notice, and ask the court before enrolling if acceptance or eligibility is uncertain.
- Confirm the result with the court. Do not assume that registering for a course, receiving a certificate, or a provider’s report means the court has completed processing your case. Check your case status or contact the traffic division.
If you want to contest the citation rather than resolve it another way, use the court’s official information and deadlines. Taking a course is not a substitute for responding to the citation.

Local traffic safety information
Benicia Police Department’s Traffic Unit handles collision investigations, traffic-law enforcement, traffic complaints and hazards, and safety education. The department says residents can request placement of a radar trailer in a neighborhood where speed concerns have been identified by calling (707) 745-3412. This is a city safety-resource contact, not a traffic-citation court or a traffic-school approval office. Benicia Police Department Traffic Unit
A City of Benicia planning report describes pedestrian and bicycle safety concerns at East 5th Street and Military East and documents planned curb, ramp, and crosswalk-striping improvements for 2025. Insurance and traffic-school completion
California’s point-masking process and an insurance discount are not the same thing. California’s Department of Insurance says insurers must offer a Good Driver policy to drivers who meet the state’s criteria, including having been licensed for at least three consecutive years and having no more than one point on the driving record; the policy must be at least 20% lower than the same insurer’s comparable non-Good-Driver rate. Traffic-school completion does not independently guarantee that a driver qualifies, receive a discount, or see a lower premium. Ask your insurer how it treats your record and coverage. Frequently asked questions
Is there a traffic court in Benicia?
The county identifies its Vallejo location as the Vallejo-Benicia Traffic Division. The branch is in Vallejo, not Benicia. Check your citation or court notice for the court assigned to your case.
Can I take online traffic school for a Benicia-area ticket?
Possibly, if the court allows traffic school for your case, you meet the requirements, and the course you choose is acceptable. Ask the court before enrolling. The provider’s statement that it is DMV licensed does not itself establish permission for your citation.
How do I find my citation or court deadline?
Start with your citation and the court’s courtesy notice. Solano Superior Court says to respond by the citation deadline even if the courtesy notice has not arrived. Use the court’s official traffic services or call the traffic division if the case does not appear or the deadline is unclear.
Does completing traffic school erase my ticket?
No. For an eligible case, the course may qualify for confidential treatment of a point on the DMV record, subject to court permission and applicable rules. It does not erase the ticket.
How do I request traffic school if my citation includes a fix-it violation?
Solano Superior Court says that, for a correctable violation, traffic-school election must be made by mail or through the court drop box with proof of correction and the required request materials. Confirm the details and deadline with the court.
Will traffic school automatically reduce my insurance premium?
No. A completed course does not guarantee a discount or a lower premium. California’s Good Driver provision has separate eligibility criteria; ask your insurer about your specific policy and record.
