Monroe County’s official traffic-ticket guidance distinguishes county-issued citations handled by Probate Court from citations issued in a city and handled by that city’s Municipal Court. GoToTrafficSchool’s Georgia online course is not verified as accepted by either court. Before enrolling for a ticket-related purpose, ask the court named on your citation whether it permits that specific online course and how it requires proof of completion.
Georgia’s regulated Driver Improvement/Defensive Driving program is different from a consumer traffic-school course. The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) does not accept online courses for driver-license purposes, including points reduction or reinstatement. GoToTrafficSchool’s self-paced online course is not verified as a DDS-approved course.
Which court should you contact about a Monroe County ticket?
Monroe County’s traffic-ticket guidance says its Magistrate Court does not handle traffic citations. It directs people with county-issued tickets to Monroe County Probate Court and those with tickets issued in a city to that city’s Municipal Court. The citation or later official notice identifies the court responsible for your case; do not choose a court based only on where you live.
Court or contact | Verified role and service information | Official contact and services |
|---|---|---|
Monroe County Probate Court | The county identifies Probate Court as the contact for county-issued traffic citations and misdemeanor criminal cases. | Physical address: 1 Courthouse Square, Forsyth, GA 31029. Phone: (478) 994-7036. Public hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Probate Court information; online traffic-ticket payment. |
Forsyth Municipal Court | The county’s ticket guidance identifies the city court for citations issued in Forsyth. The city says Municipal Court sessions are held at 68 N. Lee Street; its clerk is located at City Hall and assists with citation questions. | Municipal Court clerk: City Hall, 23 East Main Street, Forsyth, GA 31029. Phone: (478) 994-5649. City Hall public hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The official city site links to traffic fine services. Confirm the courtroom location and any hearing details with the clerk or your notice. These contacts are a non-exhaustive selection of verified relevant court information. If your citation names another court, use that court’s contact details and instructions. Georgia has no centralized statewide traffic-citation search database. Online availability depends on the court, and a citation may take 7–21 business days to appear in an online payment service. If it is not visible, contact the court directly; a missing online record does not extend a deadline or cancel a required appearance. See the Georgia Courts ticket-search and payment guidance.
Respond before enrolling in a course
- Read the citation and any official notice. Identify the named court, response or appearance instructions, and deadlines. County and city courts may use separate systems.
- Contact the named court if you are considering a course. Ask whether it allows a course in your case, whether advance permission is required, whether this specific GoToTrafficSchool online course is acceptable, and exactly how and when the court must receive proof. Acceptance has not been verified countywide.
- Handle the citation separately from course enrollment. Enrolling in or completing a course does not itself respond to the citation, dismiss it, or satisfy a court deadline. A court payment and course enrollment are separate matters. Georgia guidance says paying a citation accepts the penalty and is a guilty plea; follow the court’s official instructions if you want to contest a citation.
- Verify receipt of any certificate. If the court authorizes a course, follow its instructions and confirm the court received the required documentation. Do not assume that a provider’s certificate process reports completion to the court.
Georgia course and insurance limits
DDS calls its regulated six-hour course Driver Improvement or Defensive Driving. For driver-license purposes, DDS says the course must be taken through a DDS-certified school in the required classroom format; online classes are not accepted. A qualifying Georgia resident may request a reduction of up to seven points once every five years after completing the required certified course and presenting the original certificate to DDS. Completion alone does not automatically remove points. Review the current DDS program FAQ and certified-school directory.
Georgia law provides for an insurance premium reduction on specified coverages when statutory conditions are met, including completion of a qualifying course. Whether GoToTrafficSchool’s specific online course meets those conditions has not been verified. Ask your insurer what course and proof it accepts before enrolling for an insurance benefit.
GoToTrafficSchool’s Georgia online course
GoToTrafficSchool lists an online Georgia product called Georgia – Traffic School and a Spanish-language version. The company describes the course as self-paced and four hours long. These are company statements; they do not establish DDS certification, court acceptance in Monroe County, or eligibility for an insurance benefit. For ticket use, get the named court’s approval before enrollment. View the company’s Georgia course information.
Frequently asked questions
Does Monroe County Probate Court handle every traffic ticket issued in the county?
No. The county directs people with county-issued citations to Probate Court and those with citations issued in a city to that city’s Municipal Court. Your citation or official notice identifies the court for your case. The county also says Magistrate Court does not handle traffic citations.
Can I use GoToTrafficSchool to dismiss a Monroe County ticket?
That has not been verified. Ask the court named on your citation whether it accepts this specific online course for your case, whether you need permission first, and what completion documentation it requires. Do not rely on course enrollment as a substitute for responding to the citation.
Is GoToTrafficSchool’s online course accepted by Georgia DDS for points reduction or reinstatement?
Not on the evidence reviewed. DDS says online courses are not accepted for driver-license purposes. DDS points reduction requires the state’s qualifying course and process; completing a separate online course does not automatically remove points or restore driving privileges.
What if I cannot find my citation online?
Georgia does not have a centralized traffic-citation search database. Online lookup depends on the court and may not be available immediately. Contact the court named on the citation if the ticket is not visible. Do not assume the deadline has changed.
Does paying my ticket count as contesting it?
No. Georgia’s statewide guidance says paying accepts the penalty and is a guilty plea. If you wish to contest a citation, follow the court’s instructions and appearance requirements.
Does completing a course send my certificate to the court?
Not necessarily. The provider describes more than one certificate process, but the court’s directions control. Ask the court who must submit the certificate, how it must be delivered, and how you can confirm receipt.
Can a traffic course qualify me for an insurance reduction?
Georgia law provides for a reduction on specified policy coverages when statutory requirements are met. GoToTrafficSchool’s specific online course has not been verified as qualifying. Confirm the applicable course and proof requirements with your insurer.
