The court says its reminder notice identifies traffic-school eligibility and the deadline for your case. Its local process calls for an eight-hour Traffic Violator School course, but eligibility and permission depend on your citation and the court’s requirements. Contact the court and confirm that your chosen school and online course are acceptable before enrolling. GoToTrafficSchool.com says its California course is online and self-paced; its provider-specific approval and acceptance were not independently verified for this guide.
Check your ticket and traffic-school eligibility
The Inyo Superior Court says its reminder notice includes your due date and whether you are eligible for traffic school. The court’s published criteria generally exclude cases involving a required court appearance, a misdemeanor, an alcohol-related violation, speeding 26 mph or more over the posted limit, certain equipment or non-moving violations, an invalid or non-U.S. license, a commercial vehicle, or a prior traffic-school completion for a ticket issued within the preceding 18 months. Your notice and the court’s decision control your case.
Inyo County’s court guidance describes an eight-hour Traffic Violator School course. Although the court says eligible defendants may choose a school from the DMV-approved list, that does not by itself confirm that a particular provider or online course will be accepted for your case. Check the California DMV traffic-school list and ask the court before enrolling.

Respond to the citation and meet the court’s deadlines
The Inyo Superior Court says citations generally take four to six weeks to enter its system. It advises waiting six weeks after receiving a citation before contacting the Traffic Division if you have not received a reminder notice. Do not treat a missing online record or notice as an extension: follow the response date on your citation and contact the court if the case is not available.
Use the court’s official traffic page for current instructions and its online services page to find official citation services. Payment or enrollment in a course does not, on its own, replace responding to the citation by the date required by the court.
If you elect traffic school, Inyo County says the course must be completed within 60 days after the due date on the ticket or reminder notice, or by a different date set by the court if you appear. The court says the school electronically reports completion and advises allowing four to six weeks for processing. Confirm with the court that your completion has been received before assuming the case is complete.
The court says its clerk’s office may grant one 60-day extension if requested before the original traffic-school deadline. An extension is not automatic. Contact the Traffic Division by phone, email, in person, or mail and get confirmation of any revised date. The court’s traffic page lists the available contact routes.
Contesting a citation
The Inyo Superior Court describes options to contest a citation, including an in-person trial and a trial by written declaration. Its citation-contest instructions explain the filing steps and link to California court forms. The court says a person using a written declaration may ask the court to consider authorizing traffic school. A request is not approval; confirm the result and any course deadline directly with the court.

What traffic school can—and cannot—do
California’s traffic-school process is not the same as having a citation dismissed or erased. The state’s traffic self-help information explains that a qualifying completion may keep a point from appearing on a noncommercial driver’s DMV record, subject to eligibility and court requirements. That does not make every driver eligible, guarantee a particular court will accept a provider, or automatically produce an insurance discount.
For an Inyo County citation, follow the court’s instructions, confirm the course and provider are acceptable, and meet the deadline in your notice. Court obligations and course enrollment are separate.
