I'll be honest.
When I signed up for traffic school, I wasn't interested in the topics.
I wasn't trying to become a better driver.
I just wanted to get it over with.
That's probably how most people feel.
The funny thing is that traffic school ended up covering a lot more than I expected.
I thought it would be hours of "don't speed" and "follow the rules."
Some of it was.
But a lot of it focused on the little mistakes people make every day.
Following too closely.
Looking at a phone for a second.
Driving when they're tired.
Getting impatient in traffic.
Stuff like that.
And honestly, those are the things I see on the road all the time.
Most Nevada traffic school courses spend time on defensive driving, distracted driving, speeding, crash prevention, and how to recognize risky situations before they turn into bigger problems.
If you're taking a 5 hour traffic school course, that's usually the kind of material you'll run into.
If you're taking a level 1 DUI course or an 8 hour DUI course, there will usually be more discussion about alcohol, drugs, judgment, and impaired driving.
The thing that surprised me wasn't learning some brand-new rule.
It was realizing how many bad habits drivers pick up without even noticing.
Including me.
I think that's why these courses exist.
Not because people don't know the rules.
Because sometimes people forget them.
